Fishing Vessels at Shallow Anchor with Figures on the Shore
Initialed "R.P.B." on the edge of the wharf l.r., attributed on a presentation plaque and on a modern inscription on the back of the frame.
Oil on panel, 13 1/2 x 17 1/2 in. (34.2 x 44.7 cm),framed.
Condition: Retouch, heavy varnish coat, craquelure, drying cracks, surface grime, slight bowing to the support.
Provenance: Nadeau's Auction Gallery, Inc., Important Annual New Year's Day Auction, January 1, 2008, as Harbor's Edge Before the Storm, Lot 132.
N.B. The painting was offered at the above referenced auction as a Richard Parkes Bonington; however current scholarship does not support that attribution.
