Condition: Extensive retouch to the background, craquelure, canvas deformation, canvas edges weakened along the edge of the stretcher, surface grime.
N.B. Reminiscent of the portraits of Sir Joshua Reynolds, the sitter holds a dove, the traditional symbol of innocence, and wears as a locket a miniature portrait of a gentleman shown in profile.
