Description:

S. Kirk & Son .917 Silver Tray, Baltimore, c. 1850, with ropetwist rim and engraved grape leaf motif to surface centering an engraved coat of arms, lg. 16 in., approx. 48.8 troy oz.

N.B. The armorial was reportedly used by Frederick W. Brune (1776-1860),a prominent Baltimore merchant, whose daughter, Anne Henrietta, married George Cheyne Shattuck (1813-1893) of Boston. Shattuck, one of a family of prominent medical doctors, founded St. Paul's school for boys in 1856 on land he owned outside Concord, New Hampshire, and later helped found the Anglican Church of the Advent on the flat of Beacon Hill, Boston.
