Abbott Fuller Graves (American, 1859-1936)
Still Life with Roses. Signed "Graves" l.r., inscribed "THIS FLOWER PIECE WAS PRESENTED BY THE ARTIST ABBOTT GRAVES TO MR AND MRS EDWARD J. EGAN ABOUT 1891" on the stretcher. Oil on canvas, 18 x 30 in., framed. Condition: Craquelure, patch reinforcement, retouch, varnish inconsistencies.
Provenance: A Massachusetts estate.

The retouch includes much of the craquelure, the repair and broad strokes throughout the composition, but is executed very professionally. The craquelure is stable but visible and some has a subtle suggestion of cupping. There is a small reinforcing patch on the reverse, 3/4 in. x 1 in. in size,
