Provenance: From the artist to E. Weyhe, Inc., New York; to Carolyn G. (Mrs. Ernest B.) Fay, Houston, Texas (1959); acquired by the present owner from the estate of Carolyn G. Fay.
N.B. The sculpture is thought to have been created c. 1957, the year that a cast was on loan to the Annual Exhibition at the Whitney Museum of American Art. Copies of two letters and the bill of sale from E. Weyhe, Inc., New York, to Mrs. Ernest B. Fay of Houston, Texas, accompany the lot. One of the letters references Mrs. Fay having seen the sculpture at the Whitney and mentions a cast being made specifically for her collection.
