Description:

Apache Coiled Storage Basket, first quarter 20th century, with design composed of four checkerboard bands running from the base to rim of the basket, (some fading of the pattern),ht. 14 1/2 in.

Provenance: Collected by Lt. William Weigel, c. 1894, while serving at Whipple barracks, Arizona, when he led a company of Apache scouts; a period cabinet card photograph of Weigel with his scouts accompanies the basket.
