Description:

Revolutionary War Major General Jedediah Huntington's Shoulder Straps, c. 1783, gold metallic tape with two embroidered stars on each epaulet, gold bullion braid, reverse is backed with buff broadcloth, blue broadcloth attachment strap, and yellow silk pillows under the braid, overall lg. 8 3/4 in.

Provenance: By family descent to the consignor.

Note: Jedediah Huntington was born on August 4th, 1743, in Norwich, Connecticut. He graduated from Harvard College in 1763 and received his master's degree in 1770 from Yale University. He served as an officer in the militia in the early 1770s prior to the outbreak of the American Revolution. After receiving word of the British expedition to Concord, Massachusetts, on April 19th, 1775, Huntington and his Connecticut militia marched to Roxbury and took part in the Siege of Boston. He quickly rose through the ranks and commanded a brigade of Connecticut troops. On June 24, 1783, he was promoted to Brevet Major General by George Washington. Huntington died on September 25, 1818.
