Attributed to André Lhote (French, 1885-1962)
Two Drawings: Le matelot, sous sa chemise... and Carmen, promptu au plaisir.... Both signed or inscribed "A. Lhote." l.l., titled in passages of text l.l. and u.r., respectively, Le Matelot identified on a label from Papillon Gallery, Los Angeles, affixed to the frame backing paper. Mixed media with pen and ink on paper, sight sizes to 9 x 13 3/4 in., framed. Condition: Pale staining and toning, not examined out of frames.
When the frame of "Carmen" was opened, the work was found to be laid down on a light weight mat board support. The sheet size is approximately 10 1/8 x 15 1/8 in. (26.0 x 38.5 cm). There is pale toning overall and acid burn to the edges of the sheet. The matting appears to be archival.
