Note: Self-taught artist Mose Tolliver was born in Alabama to sharecroppers and attended school until the third grade. He became disabled as an adult after a work accident and turned to painting to pass the time, using house paint and plywood. Museums such as the Birmingham Museum of Art, the Smithsonian, and the Corcoran Gallery have all exhibited his art.
