Description:
Photograph of Negro League Baseball Team, The Cubans, 10 3/4 x 14 inches, unframed.
Note: The Negro Leagues were a group of professional baseball leagues that featured African American, as well as some Latin American, baseball players from the 1920s through the early 1950s. Because the American League and the National League excluded black ballplayers until 1947, Hall of Famers such as Josh Gibson, Satchel Paige, and Cool Papa Bell spent some or all of their careers playing in the Negro Leagues. Jackie Robinson, Hank Aaron, and Roy Campanella were just a few of the stars whose play exemplified the quality of the Negro Leagues when they got the chance to join the major leagues.
