N.B. Chicago surrealist Gertrude Abercrombie worked on spare interiors, illusionary landscapes, and tiny still lifes like this painting. She repeatedly returned to the same subjects—often objects she kept in her studio including ostrich eggs, seashells, and rocks—and her paintings rarely include any humans other than herself. She asserted that all of her works were autobiographical, and the subjects of her still lifes were always items in her possession.
Framed dimensions: 4 7/8 x 5 in.
Very small losses and abrasions to edges, possible varnish discoloration.
