Condition: Lined.

Provenance: From the artist to his teacher, Louis Kronberg (the subject of the painting and its lender to the 1946 exhibition); to a private collection, Boston; Skinner, Inc., Fine American and European Paintings, May 14, 1993, Sale 1508, Lot 150; to the current private collection.

Also with a label from The Fenway Art Center, Boston, affixed to the frame backing.

It appears that the canvas has been trimmed of its original tacking edges and laid down on a solid support, and the support is backed with a layer of canvas. The lined work was then glued down along the edges to what appears to be the original stretcher. There is tape or similar along each of the vertical sides of the recto that extends in about 1 inch, and the tape has been overpainted with retouch. There appears to be either an inscription or faint signature in the l.r. quadrant on the floor under the paint brush to the right of the easel.

Framed dimensions are 32 1/2 x 38 5/8 in.
