The Agena Target Docking Vehicle (ATDA) over the Earth, the first unmanned satellite photographed from Space, Gemini 8, March 1966. Stamped "D4C 71474" on the verso u.r., 1967 McDonnell Douglas stamp on the verso u.l. Vintage chromogenic print on fiber-based Kodak paper with 'A Kodak Paper' watermark on the verso, image size 9 3/4 x 8 in. (24.6 x 20.3 cm),unmatted.
Condition: Minor handling crimp u.c.

N.B. 'This Agena target vehicle," Armstrong noted, 'was the first unmanned satellite successfully photographed from space. It clearly indicates the detail in which one satellite can be observed from another. This photograph is a particularly good replica of the actual view seen with the eye, with the exception of the brilliance of the white and metallic parts of the Agena, never yet captured on film' (Cortright, p. 172). The NASA negative number is S-66-25780.
