Description:

Navajo Woman's Wearing Blanket, c. last quarter 19th century, woven in a second phase chief's variant using natural and synthetic dyed wool, (stain),52 x 42 in.

Provenance: Collected by William Giles Harding Carter (1851-1925),an U.S. cavalry officer who served during the American Civil War, the Spanish-American War, and World War I. He also took part in the Indian Wars, seeing extensive service against the Apache and Comanche in Arizona, where he was awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions during the Comanche Campaign on August 30, 1881.
