Blackfeet Chief's Beaded Hide Shirt and Leggings, c. 1910s, fringe and perforated tabs off the bottom and sides, the beaded strips and bib with multicolored geometric designs and decorated with ermine tails, bugle beads, and wool wrapping, (some insect damage),shirt lg. 31, leggings lg. 29 in.
Provenance: Collected by Edward Averill. Averill was an engineer on the Flathead Reservation in the first quarter of the 20th century. He had a trading post in Dixon, Montana, where he traded and exchanged blacksmithing services with the Flathead and Blackfeet tribes.
