Description:

Apache Beaded Hide Moccasins Collected from Geronimo at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, in 1897, with thick rawhide soles and beaded with geometric and multicolored Morning Star devices, (some bead loss),lg. 10 in.

Provenance: Collected by Mr. George T. Woolley and descended in his family to the present owner. Included are two early newspaper clippings, one of which reads in part: "Geronimo was a man of stocky build, very hideous but nevertheless dignified. He was about sixty years old in 1897." The moccasins were later inherited by Jack Woolley, who went on to be a prominent politician through several presidents' terms.
