Rare Pair of Carved Mahogany Dressing Tables, Wallace Nutting, Framingham, Massachusetts, c. 1944, branded "WALLACE NUTTING" ("in plain capitals"),the carved and molded tops above and dentiled band and thumb-molded long drawers, the central shell, foliate, and scrolled vine-carved drawers below, flanked by drawers and floral-carved quarter-columns on scroll- and acanthus leaf-carved cabriole legs ending in claw-and-ball feet joined by a shaped and carved apron centering a shell with scrolling vines, ht. 31 1/2, wd. 33 3/4, dp. 20 1/2 in.

Provenance: R.B. Cooke, Durham, North Carolina, to the present owner. A letter on Wallace Nutting's stationery addressed to the consignor's father states "There is one regret, that is that Wallace Nutting cannot see the two handsome lowboys that will be going to you shortly. They are the finest lowboys we have ever made, and I know you will be proud of them, too."
