Otis, Samuel Allyne (1740-1814) Document Signed February 22, 1797, Referring to John Adams' Retirement from the Senate. Single page document on laid paper, secretrial hand, signed by Otis, a brief document, commemorating an important moment, small corner, top right, lost and repaired, 10 x 7 1/4 in.
John Adams, as Vice President, had a seat in the Senate that he was obliged to relinquish upon his swearing-in as our second American President on March 4, 1797.
