Sheet Music, American, Mid-19th Century. Four folio volumes, collecting a variety of popular songs of the day, many with colorful lithographic covers, including the work of several minstrel groups: the Ethiopian Serenaders, Christy's Minstrels, D.D. Emmit, the Congo Melodists, William Whitlock, the Virginia Serenaders (depicted in and out of blackface); along with works by Stephen Foster, Jenny Lind, and many others, containing hundreds of songs; [together with] four other volumes of classical continental sheet music, and two other octavo volumes of music. (10)
