Engraved U.S. Model 1842 Pistol, c. 1853, walnut stock with a light cartouche on the left side, brass fittings, marked on the tail of the lock "MIDDTN/CONN./1853" and "US/IN. JOHNSON" in front of the hammer, lightly engraved on the front of the lock plate, barrel dated "1853" on the tang and proof marked "US/SK/P," engraved on the brass back strap "Captured at the battle "Prairie Grove" Ark. Dec. 8 1862/by Lieut. G. Fairman. Presented to C. Haynes as a token of respect," barrel lg. 8 1/2, overall lg. 14 in.
