Inspector Gauges for the Production of the U.S. Model 1842 Pistol with Stock Production Blanks, and a U.S. Model 1842 Springfield Pattern Gun, c. 1842, group is composed of apparently two and part of a third sets of gauges mounted in two shadow box displays for the complete inspection and manufacture of the Model 1842 Percussion pistol, most gauges are marked "US" with either letter "B" or "C" and a number spanning 1 through approximately 38; separate frame showing six steps in the production of the stock from rough cut to finished state; the Model 1842 Pattern pistol has a walnut stock and is marked with Cyrus Buckland's inspector's cartouche behind the sideplate, the lock is marked behind the cock "SPRING/FIELD/1842," and in front of the cock eagle over "US" and "USM," the breech of the barrel is marked "US MODEL 1841" and "No" without a specific number designation, and has the proper "V," "P," and eagle's head proof marks, brass furniture and barrel are also marked "USM," case ht. 24 3/4, wd. 32 5/8 in.
