Elizabeth Woodville Pleading for Her Children (the children of Edward IV, Edward V and Richard of Shrewsbury, Duke of York) Before their Uncle, Richard, Duke of Gloucester
Unsigned.
Watercolor and ink on cardstock, 9 5/8 x 7 1/2 in. (24.4 x 20.0 cm),matted, unframed.
Condition: Reverse and edges of the recto with remnants of tape and glue from a former mounting, hinged to back mat in two places on the reverse.

N.B. Elizabeth Woodville pleading for her sons (the sons of Edward IV, who were Edward V and Richard of Shrewsbury, Duke of York) before their uncle, Richard, Duke of Gloucester. The children are called "The Princes in the Tower." Richard was named their protector, instead he imprisoned the young brothers in the Tower of London and they subsequently disappeard. Richard took the throne becoming Richard III and had the boys declared illegitimate.
