Two Portraits, Said to Depict Henry Goldney in Quaker Dress and Henry Goldney of Whitechurch
Unsigned, one inscribed "Henry Goldney of Whitechurch, b. 1714" in pencil on the stretcher, the other inscribed "Henry Goldney/.../Married Elizabeth Speke/..." in pencil on the stretcher.
Oil on canvas, 30 x 25 in. (76.3 x 63.5 cm),framed.
Condition: Small punctures, paint losses, stretcher marks, craquelure, surface grime.
Estimate $800-1,200

Inscribed "Colonel George H. Wells" on the stretchers and frames. The former owner was Colonel Wells a US Calvary officer who passed away in the 1980s or 90s.

A note affixed to one of the portraits describes the sitter as Henry Goldney in Quaker Dress. The subjects of the portraits could be a father and son, or portraits done of Goldney at different times of life.
