Description:

Group of Continental Carved Architectural Fragments, a rectangular walnut panel depicting a man holding a piece of fruit standing beneath a shell, ht. 21, wd. 7, dp. 2; another ovoid, with a shell surmounting a female figure depicted amongst C-scroll motifs, a hook mounted in the center, ht. 34 1/4, wd. 9 1/2, dp. 1, hook dp. 5; a pilaster-form female figure extending into scrolling motifs, ht. 18 5/8, wd. 4, dp. 1 1/2; four small fragments depicting figural elements and putti, one with a stringed instrument, and two foliate motif elements, ht. 5 1/2 to 10 1/2, wd. 3 to 4 3/4, dp. 2 1/2 to 4 in.

Provenance: Reportedly owned by Jonathan Woodside (1799-1845),an attorney in Chillicothe, Ohio, who collected these brackets and other artworks and architectural elements while serving as Charge d'Affairs to the Court of Frederick VI of Denmark from 1835 until 1841.
