Description:
Turned Poplar Tall Post Bed with Acorn Finials, probably Piedmont, Virginia, c. 1815-35, four elaborately turned posts joined by rails, a shaped headboard, a similarly turned foot rail, and an arched tester, post ht. 78 in.
Provenance: Purchased by the consignor's grandfather in 1929, out of a house owned by the family of Cletus Lamb (of Moss Hill, Virginia) according to a note written by the United States Department of the Interior. The house was reportedly used by Stonewall Jackson during the Civil War in the winter of 1862-63.
