Red-painted and Decorated "Cohocksink Hose Company" Parade Hat, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, c. 1856, top hat form with wide brim, bright red ground, oval medallion on the front with Native American dressed in a tunic and cape wearing a feathered head dress, leggings and moccasins, flanked by scrolls reading "COHOCKSINK HOSE COMPY," the top of the hat initialed "M.J.D.," the back dated "1856," underside of the brim painted yellow, (repair to brim, minor inpainting),ht. 6 1/8, wd. 12 1/4, dp. 13 3/4 in.

Front of the brim broken and reglued, wear with associated paint loss around top edge, craquelure. Repaint in the floral elements flanking the bottom of the front device.
