"Ann Jones" Boston Pastoral School Needlework Sampler, Milford, Massachusetts, c. 1788, vibrant colors stitched in silk thread on a linen background, four lines of alphabet divided by strawberry border above a pastoral scene of a young woman dressed in a white gown with two sheep seated below a tree with a brick house in the background, text at bottom reads: "Ann Iones Her Work made in the year/1788," all surrounded by a stitched sawtooth and strawberry vine border, in molded frame with gilt liner, ht. 21 3/4, wd. 21 1/4 in.
Note: Ann Jones was baptized July 4, 1773, the first child of Timothy Jones and Ann Scammell Jones of Milford, Massachusetts. Her uncle was Revolutionary War officer Colonel Alexander Scammell.
