Description:

Mahogany and Brass Portable Folding Desk, N. Starkey, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, c. 1845-56, brass-bound, with exterior end drawer opening to a deep blue wool felt writing surface, the underside of one board with printed "N. STARKEY" label, desk contains twelve issues of The Sailor's Magazine spanning January through December 1853 and one June 1922 issue; two albumen photographs of Cozzens drawings, a Perils of the Ocean and Ben Boatswain's Yarns or Tales of the Ocean booklets; three paper advertising items; two inkwells; a sander; and a pen, ht. 6 1/2, wd. 18, dp. 10 1/4 in.
