Ingram from the author Walt Whitman, Oct: 2 '88"; bound in flexible dark reddish-brown cloth binding; portrait frontispiece tipped in opposite title; text portrait of Elias Hicks printed on page 118, one page of ads at the end; some browning to endleaves and pastedowns, spine sunned, binding slightly bumped, 9 1/4 x 6 in.
This is one of about 100 copies printed at Whitman's expense for personal presentation; the remaining copies of the edition (about 1,000) were bound in hard beveled cloth and sold by McKay.
