Qu'ran, Timbuktu, Mali, 18th Century. 126 loose leaves, quarto format, text in a single column, in a number of hands, in blind-tooled contemporary goatskin covers over boards, not attached to the textblock, as originally constructed, the text incomplete, fragmentary at the beginning and end, inscribed on laid paper, in a brown ink with red diacritical marks and occasional inter-linear decorations in colored ink, the paper ragged and chipped along the edges, some pages torn in half horizontally, others stitched together with thread, delicate, some water staining, bio-predation, other damage, 8 1/2 x 7 1/2 in.
