Description:

British Scrapbooks, Late 19th Century. Three large quarto volumes in half leather, each approximately 100 leaves, consisting of original pen-and-ink and painted designs and representations in color and metallic inks, incorporating letterhead and envelope monograms, coats of arms, and other insignia associated with individuals, organizations, colleges, the military, nobility, countries, companies, and other people and groups; each printed in raised ink, carefully cut, arranged by theme, and pasted onto the scrapbook compiler's originally drafted geometric design or representational drawing; from internal evidence likely compiled by a Miss Nicoll of Copt Hall, Hendon, Middlesex, England, in the late 19th century; as the house was sold by the Nicoll family in 1925, these scrapbooks were likely compiled before that date; bindings worn, leaves detached, occasional damage, discoloration from glue; in all, approximately 300 album pages, 13 x 11 in.
