The Douay–Rheims Bible is an English translation of the Latin Vulgate prepared by Catholic priests from England living in exile. The English College in Douai was established at about the same time Elizabeth I's arrival on the throne represented a re-imposition of Protestant rule after the departure of her Catholic half-sister Mary I.
