Monogrammed, inscribed, and dated "CB [circular] ROME 1912" on the right side edge.
Marble, 14 x 14 1/4 x 5 in. (35.6 x 36.2 x 12.7 cm).
Condition: Minor dust and dirt, a cluster of random drill holes to the reverse.
Provenance: The estate of the artist.
N.B. Chester Beach is listed as having exhibited a sculpture titled Vortex at the National Academy of Design Winter Exhibition, 1915, and in 1916 at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, 111th Annual Exhibition.
