The retouch is finely applied, primarily to fill craquelure, with some dots and dashes to the face. There is also a cluster of retouch to craquelure in the background of the upper right quadrant. The craquelure is stable and is more visible in raking light. There are two odd drops of what looks like modern paint on the lower left side in the gentleman's coat. From afar they appear as paint losses but when examined more closely they look to be on top of the paint surface.
