Four-tune Overture Musical Box by Nicole Freres, late 19th century, no. 46587, Gamme no. 1234, brass tune indicator with engraved tune list, combined repeat/change and tune selector control, engine-turned barrel with instant stop lever, combs and bedplate marked Nicole Freres, silvered tune plaque engraved pour Metzler & co., Londres, rosewood veneered case with brass stringing, enameling, and cast brass handles, with a 12 1/8 x 3 1/8-in. cylinder, wd. 25 in.
Note: The overtures are Bellini's Puritani, Meyerbeer's Robert le Diable, Weber's Freischutz, and Auber's Fra Diavolo.
The underside of the case is inscribed with probable repairer's marks, dated 1880, 1907, and 1938.
