French Black Slate "Science or Education" Clock, retailed by Ball, Black & Co., New York, black slate case with curved sides, heavy beveled glass in the cast brass bezel over the enamel roman numeral dial marked for the retailer, eight-day time and strike movement regulated by a pendulum, all topped with a gilt grouping of spyglass, book, dividers and globe stand with silvered globe, ht. 15 in.
