"Earl of Bordeaux" Gilt Shelf Clock, France, c. 1840, two doves atop the gilt-metal case, 3 1/2-in. dia. enamel roman numeral dial, central frieze depicting a maiden with several chickens feeding, the Duchesse de Berry is shown with the Duke of Bordeaux in her arms, a sibling kneels in prayer before her with cradle in background, lower frieze showing a scholar teaching the newborn child several educational pursuits, all resting on four cast brass swans feeding cygnets, eight-day time and count wheel strike mechanism with silk thread suspension, ht. 18 in.
