Description:

Two Carved Architectural Figural Fragments, Continental, 19th century, each a caryatid-style figure, one with an acanthus capital resting on the head of a woman holding a book, above a scrolling plinth, ht. 27 3/4, wd. 6, dp. 4 1/2; and the other modeled holding a cross, ht. 27 3/4, wd. 6, dp. 4 in.

Provenance: Reportedly owned by Jonathan Woodside (1799-1845),an attorney in Chillicothe, Ohio, who collected these brackets and other artworks and architectural elements while serving as Charge d'Affairs to the Court of Frederick VI of Denmark from 1835 until 1841.
