Inscribed "Louis Gamain au Havre Rue de l'Hopital No. 37" on the mat.
Watercolor on paper, in a gilt and beveled mat with rounded corners bearing a later inscription "Alfred & Marie Cap. Ingouf," 14 1/4 x 19 3/4 in., in a giltwood frame, together with a late 19th century French cabinet card with inscription "CLEMENTINE-MARIE INGOUF/nee ROUSSEL/(1854-1909)."
Condition: Toning, faded.
Provenance: The painting and the cabinet card both descended in the Ingouf family, likely from the French Admiral Jules Alexandre Ingouf (1846-1901).
