Oil on canvas (octagonal stretcher),26 1/2 x 21 1/2 in. (67.0 x 54.5 cm),in an octagonal frame.
Condition: Lined, retouch, surface imperfections, varnish inconsistencies.
N.B. The portrait at hand is a copy after Bust of a man wearing a golden chain with a cross in the collection of the Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister (Museumslandschaft Hessen Kassel),Kassel, Germany, now attributed to a follower of Rembrandt. The cross has been omitted from this copy, but it maintains the octagonal format of the original. The German version is oil on panel, very close in size to the work presented here, and bears a monogram and date on the center right.
