Description:

Paint-decorated Fireboard, Pennsylvania, c. 1840, the slightly arched form with black border surrounding a landscape scene with a stone house and trees under a pink and yellow-striped sky, 32 1/4 x 31 3/4 in.

Note: Three additional fireboards by the same hand are known from the Babcock Collection and were displayed in a private home on Long Island. Others have been owned by David Schorsch, Courcier/Wilkins, and Steve Miller. The Miller example was illustrated in the December 1991 issue of Architectural Digest.
