Description:
American School, 19th Century
Portrait of a Gentleman. Signed and dated "T.H. Pinxt Apl 1835" on the reverse. Oil on canvas, the man seated in his library with mountainous landscape beyond, 26 x 21 in., in a period molded giltwood frame. Condition: Restored, varnished.
Estimate $100-200
appears to have inpainting filling the craquelure, mustard-colored stain covering the stretcher and reverse of the canvas, masking varnish applied which makes examination under blacklight difficult.
