Description:

Two White Salt-glazed Stoneware Items, England, c. 1760, probably Staffordshire, a press-molded cornucopia-form wall pocket with border of flowers flanking a scallop shell above a central finch perched on a branch with blossoms, lg. 7 7/8; and a double spout sauceboat with two strap handles and slip-cast decorated with lion passant flanked by birds with outspread wings, all supported on three paw feet with shell knees, lg. 6 1/4 in.

Provenance: The Troy Chappell Collection. Cornucopia ex Dr. Alvin M. Kanter collection; sauceboat ex Ginsburg & Levy.

Literature: Cornucopia identical in reverse illustrated in English Saltglazed Earthenware, by Luxmoore, plate 36; sauceboat with similar illustrated in Catalogue of the Collection of English Pottery in the British Museum, by Hobson, plate XXV, illus. G-99.

Wall pocket: Professionally restored chip to each corner.
Sauceboat: Restored handles and to rim chips oversprayed and yellowed.
