Frederick Porter Vinton (American, 1846-1911)
A Grey Day, (Grez-sur-Loing, France). Initialed "F.P.V." l.r., inscribed, titled, and dated "With Mr. Vinton's/affectionate regard to/Mrs. Kate Gannett Wells/x Mas 1890" and "A Grey Day: A sketch made in Grez S et M France 1890" on the reverse. Oil on canvas, 10 x 16 in., framed in a liner. Condition: Small tear to u.l. corner, surface grime.
N.B. Kate Gannett Wells (1838-1911) was a Boston reformer, philanthropist, and author.
