Tait, Arthur Fitzwilliam (1819-1905) A Woodcock in the Underbrush, Oil on Canvas, New York, 1850. Game bird study, on the original stretcher, signed lower right, "AF Tait NY 1850"; in a gilt frame, 19 1/2 x 24 3/4 in.
As a young man, Tait assisted George Catlin in his Indian Gallery in London. He then emigrated to the states and worked as a painter specializing in sporting and wildlife subjects, along with scenes from the frontier.
