Washington, George (1732-1799) Full-length Portrait set into the Declaration of Independence. Manchester, New Hampshire: William H. Fiske, 1856. Monochromatic lithographic broadside, designed and executed by Gilam R. Russell, teacher of practical, plain and ornamental writing and drawing; J.H. Buford, lithographer; matted and framed, staining at top and right margin, the sheet toned, 20 1/2 x 26 1/2 in.
Russell designed this piece as an homage to the founding fathers and an advertisement for his penmanship skills. He revised and re-published a second edition for the Centennial in 1875, which he called The Great Centennial Memorial.
