Description:

Wedgwood Black Basalt Baptismal Font, England, late 18th century, banded rim with criss-cross ribbons, drapery swags and rings in high relief, acanthus leaf foot, unmarked, dia. 17 5/8 in.

Provenance: Zeitlin collection.

Note: Framed paper accompanying the bowl reads: "Dec.2nd 1919 Mr. Harry Barnard of Josiah Wedgwood & Sons Museum at Etruria, Stoke-on-Trent, wrote, after seeing Miss Ellen Rickman's china: That her black Basalte Ware Bowl or Vase was an approximate copy, made by Messrs Wedgwood, of the old font at Essenden Church, Herts."
