Description:
Antique 18kt Gold and Hardstone Cameo Ring, Birmingham, 1892, depicting Abraham Lincoln, size 10, British hallmarks.
Note: Curtis Mann at the Lincoln Library in Springfield, Illinois, believes the ring was made for the 1893 Chicago World's Fair and that it would have been part of the Exhibition for Birmingham, England, in the Industrial Pavilion. Although the date the ring was produced does not correspond with any special anniversary date for Lincoln, Mann's supposition is that the ring was owned by an admirer of Lincoln, perhaps part of a faction in England that supported his policies for social change.
Estimate $600-800
Minor edge nick near bezel, not obtrusive, and some minor overall wear with age.
