Art Deco Platinum and 18kt Gold Open-face Pocket Watch, Cartier, the white enamel dial with roman numeral indicators, enclosing manual-wind movement, stem-wind, stem-set, no. 977, 14223, 13243, 47 mm, signed on the dial, reverse with monogram.
Note: According to family history, the watch was property of Lewis David Einstein (1877-1967). A member of a prominent Jewish family, Einstein's ancestors included Judah P. Benjamin. He was an important United States diplomat, posted at Paris, London, Constantinople, and Peking. As an author, poet, and historian, his works include The Italian Renaissance in England, The Relation of Literature to History, Tudor Ideals, and Roosevelt: His Mind In Action.
