Description:

Two Art Deco Evening Gowns, a Mariano Fortuny blue velvet long-sleeved dress with pleated blue crepe panels along the arms and sides and a white silk dress with fringe overlay, (some damage).

Provenance: From the estate of Ann Chase Twichell Hendrie, Little Compton, Rhode Island.
Estimate $200-400

The fringe dress is in very good condition. All of the fringe is intact. Some of it is a bit twisted. The dress's color has worn a bit with age. The underdress has some very minor snags and minor staining along the sides.
The Fortuny dress is labeled, but has some condition issues. The lining is tearing away from the exterior (especially near the shoulders). The sleeve hook-and-eye closure has torn from one side on both shoulders and would need to be mended. There are quite a few spots of rust-colored staining along the body and at the hems of the dress and sleeves. Some of the ties attached to the beads along the sides have over-stretched or broken so they don't close over the blue crepe pleating. There are holes and tears along the bottom of the crepe paneling.

The absence of a condition statement does not imply that the lot is in perfect condition or completely free from wear and tear, imperfections or the effects of aging. Condition requests can be obtained via email (lot inquiry button) or by telephone to the appropriate gallery location (Boston/617.350.5400 or Marlborough/508.970.3000).
